How to choose the right pillow
The single most important thing a pillow does is keep your neck level and neutral. The right height (loft) for you depends mostly on how you sleep.
Pillow loft by sleep position
- Side sleepers usually need a higher, firmer pillow (around 12-14 cm) to fill the gap between shoulder and neck.
- Back sleepers do best with a medium loft (around 10-12 cm) that cradles the head without pushing it forward.
- Stomach sleepers need the lowest, softest pillow (around 8-10 cm) so the neck is not bent upward.
- Combination sleepers who move around are best with a medium, adaptable loft.
Shape matters too
A contoured (wave) pillow adds dedicated neck support; a classic shape suits those who just want comfortable height. If you often wake with a stiff neck, extra neck support is worth trying.
Match your pillow to your mattress
Your pillow and your mattress work together. How far your shoulder sinks into the mattress changes the gap your pillow has to fill – so the same pillow can feel just right on one mattress and too high or too low on another.
- Softer mattress – your shoulder sinks in more, leaving a smaller gap, so a slightly lower pillow usually keeps your neck level.
- Firmer or brand-new mattress – you sink in less, leaving a bigger gap, so you often need a touch more pillow height.
- Just changed your mattress? Re-check your pillow height – a new mattress is the most common reason a pillow that used to feel right suddenly does not.
We make pillows, not mattresses. Choose a mattress that suits your weight and the firmness you like, then pick the pillow loft that keeps your head and neck in a comfortable, neutral line on it.
